Our research

The EClim group investigates risks, impacts and adaptation options to climate change in mountain and cryosphere systems.

Two themes cut across our research: climate policy and capacity building.

Our research topics and cross-cutting themes

Our group investigates climate impacts on cryosphere, mountain, and related socio-environmental systems, especially those related to changes in glaciers, run offs and water availability. Using an interdisciplinary perspective we assess risks associated with water availability, landslides, floods, and complex cascading processes. Strongly rooted in local contexts our works supports the development of innovative adaptation strategies to successfully manage risks from climate-related impacts.

We create evidence-based knowledge to inform climate policies and support better decision making in climate change adaptation and risk management. We design courses and organize training programs to build knowledge and capacities for the next generation of researches and decision-makers in Switzerland and abroad. We collaborate with research institutions, national authorities, intergovernmental organizations and NGO’s worldwide.

Our projects

Our group has research collaborations across the globe and conducts research in the Andes, the Alps, the Himalayas, and Central Asia. With over 20 past and present projects, our work is multi-disciplinary and cross-sectoral, ranging from local to regional to global scale.
