New Publication: Using AI to Evaluate the Quality of Corporate Nature-Related Disclosures

We’re excited to share a new paper co-authored by EClim member Saeid Vaghefi, now published in Environmental Research Communications. The study applies Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assess whether disclosures by major companies—specifically those under Nature Action 100—are genuinely useful for decision-making, as recommended by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

🌿 Key insights:

  • While companies reference TNFD elements, many:
    • Present an overly positive narrative about nature-related actions.
    • Avoid disclosing location-specific data on critical nature assets.
    • Offer vague or non-binding commitments that lack specificity.

🔎 The study calls for deeper scrutiny of the content of disclosures—not just their alignment with disclosure standards.
