AI + Environment Summit Zurich: Saeid Vaghefi on Climate Insights from Space

At the recent AI + Environment Summit hosted at the Switzerland Innovation Park Zurich, EClim member Saeid Vaghefi delivered a talk and joined a high-level panel to explore how AI and Earth observation can accelerate climate resilience.

In his talk, Saeid emphasized:

  • The potential of satellite data and AI to produce actionable climate insights.
  • The need to restore and harmonize decades of Earth observation data to inform long-term planning and decision-making.

During the panel discussion on “The Future of ClimateNLP” with Théo Alves Da Costa (Ekimetrics), Julia B. (Oxford/CEP), and moderator Tobias Schimanski, the speakers discussed how Natural Language Processing (NLP) can enhance transparency by extracting insights from corporate disclosures and climate transition plans.

“What struck me most is how quickly the field is maturing — from biodiversity monitoring to renewable-energy forecasting — and how much depends on interdisciplinary collaboration and the responsible, transparent deployment of AI.” — Saeid Vaghefi
